In 2003 Abbas Ibn Firnas disappeared from the village in central France where he had spent most of his life. He was 73.
Ten years later, his 16-year old grandson Maleck, high school dropout and maker of films, has become the reluctant companion of an aging widow, Yvette, who occasionally thinks she is fifteen, that Maleck and Abbas are the same person and that she and Maleck are lovers.
Yvette inadvertantly hands Maleck clues to the incredible but frustradng life of Abbas Ibn Firnas, inventor, philosopher, outsider and extraordinary dancer.
Now Maleck wants to know what happened to his grandfather. Yvette says that he flew away, yet the village hides secrets of heroism and shame, and Maleck knows that man cannot fly.
