Anne Goy, relieur designer du livre et du papier, a fait évoluer une technique qu'elle avait créée en 1986. Il s'agit de la fameuse « secret Belgian binding » , aujourd'hui rebaptisée reliure crisscross en référence aux croisements engendrés par le fil de couture. L'intérêt de la publication est d'offrir, aux débutants comme aux relieurs confirmés, un manuel clair et précis de la technique de base (crisscross 1) et d'une variante (crisscross 2) permettant d'exploiter toutes les possibilités esthétiques de la couture.
Crisscross is a quick and simple binding structure ; it provides an interesting visual effect and opens well. Anne Goy, a well known bookbinder, has recently added developments to a structure she devised in 1986, structure widely known as the "secret Belgian binding", renamed today crisscross referring to the crossing of the sewing threads.
This manual gives a clear and precise description of the basic techniques (crisscross 1) and a variant (crisscross 2), a further exploration of the visual aspects of this type of sewing.
