La devise de Pline l'ancien, Nulla dies sine Linea - pas un jour sans une ligne - est celle de Safet Zec.

En témoignent ses carnets qui prennent place dans cette histoire dont la mémoire rassemble ceux de Delacroix, de Turner, de Degas ou encore de Bonnard...

Ces pages rendent compte d'une traque dans laquelle le peintre affronte la réalité, parfois banale, pour aller au-delà des apparences. Ici, ce sont quelques taches, les pages d'un journal, déchirées et collées, quelques traits ; et là, des lignes, des contours. Chaque ébauche est un geste désespéré auprès d'une photographie récupérée dans un magazine et montrant la réalité violente et obscène de la guerre.

Tous les moyens sont bons pour déchiffrer ces réalités.

Du crayon à l'aquarelle ou la gouache.

These pages are records of the track of how the painter faces reality - sometimes a banal one - to go beyond appearances. Here are some stains, there newspaper pages, torn and glued, some paint strokes ; and there again, some lines, outlines. Every sketch is a desperate gesture accompanying a photography that has been retrieved from a magazine, showing the violent and obscene reality of war.
