At the core of Stella Hamberg s (born 1975 in Friedberg) sculptural vocabulary is the human being the same figure that has stood at the center of sculpture throughout the history of art. For Hamberg, working on a sculpture is like being involved in a continual dialogue, although a unique language is spoken in each one of her visual worlds, as is obvious in works such as in Die Berserker (The Beserker), Der Gefährte (The Companion), Der Freund (The Friend), Das Mädchen (The Girl), and Der Fremde (The Stranger). The strong presence of the figures contradicts the stoic autism in which they are and always will be trapped. An image is like a mountain, and a mountain doesn t move, says the artist. This monograph is the first survey of Hamberg s latest works.
