The son of a thief and a witch, Pablos, the Buscón, enters the service of a wealthy young man, lives in Alcalá, at court, and ends up traveling to America. Although its plot is very similar to that of other works of the genre, La vida del Buscón is not a typical picaresque novel. The mastery of its writing, the liveliness and sarcasm in the description of characters and situations, and the intelligent cruelty of its anecdotes make it a work that transcends the limits of its genre, a picaresque novel that puts a new spin on the archetype.
