Since the end of the 19th century sports are of great social and cultural importance in Austria. The values and ethics related to sports are primarily conveyed via images. Thus, this volume focuses on central images and topoi of sports. Due to their strong emotions these images have found their way into the collective memory of the country. This book illustrates their recent and past political meaning which has to be repeatedly negotiated.
