Women Composers – A Graded Anthology for Violoncello and Piano is a three-book series dedicated to cello music by female composers. Intended as a progressive compendium of educational and concert pieces for cello and piano, this series illustrates the rich and varied repertoire composed by women from the 19th century to the present day. The anthology aims to help ensure that works by women composers become an established part of the cello repertoire.
Volume 1 contains easy to moderately difficult pieces that can be played in the neck positions and encompasses 28 works by 14 women composers from different countries. The collection spans a wide variety of styles – from Romantic character pieces such as Nocturne or Romance, to early ragtime compositions, jazz- and swing-inspired pieces, and contemporary works. The pieces are arranged in two levels of difficulty: Elementary (international Grades 1–3), and Intermediate (international Grades 4–5).
