« Es-tu en colère Gabriel ? »
Cette question, le docteur Grant la lui a posée pendant trois ans, à chaque début de séance, durant toute sa détention au centre correctionnel de Red Wing. Quand Gabriel en sort, elle reste dans sa tête comme un disque rayé.
Bien sûr qu’il est en colère, il l’a toujours été– et il l’était surtout au lycée, où il voyait Vicky, ce garçon un peu trop souriant, un peu trop heureux. Ce garçon aux habits colorés, aux yeux gris, et qui semblait le regarder différemment. Un jour, Gabriel l’a poussé un peu trop fort. L’instant d’après, Vicky gisait au bas d’un escalier, sa jambe brisée. Handicapé, à jamais…
Depuis qu’il est sorti du centre correctionnel, Gabriel essaie de refaire sa vie. De travailler dans un garage. De renouer des liens avec sa sœur. Il écrit des lettres, aussi, des lettres d’excuse qu’il n’envoie jamais. Il se bat pour trouver un certain équilibre et contrôler cette rage qui le dévore… jusqu’au jour où, par hasard, sa route recroise celle de Vicky.
