Die Debatte über den Katharismus ist aufgrund der scheinbar unvereinbaren Forschungspositionen der Traditionalisten und Dekonstruktivisten festgefahren. Die Beiträge dieses Bandes verfolgen einen konstruktivistischen und kulturgeschichtlichen Ansatz, um einige der Streitpunkte dieser Kontroverse, die meist auf die Voraussetzungen des Gelehrtenwissens des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts zurückzuführen sind, zu relativieren bzw. zu beheben. Zu diesem Zweck werden Aspekte der Häresiekonstruktionen betrachtet und kontextualisiert, die sich nicht nur auf die Katharer beschränken. Im Sammelband werden exemplarisch religiöse Feindbilder vor der Entstehung und nach der Inquisition sowie in der modernen Geschichtskultur untersucht.

The debate on Catharism has reached an impasse due to the seemingly irreconcilable research positions of traditionalists and deconstructionists. The contributions in this volume adopt a constructivist and cultural-historical approach in order to put into perspective or resolve some of the points of contention in this controversy, which are largely attributable to the scholarly assumptions of the 19th and 20th centuries. To this end, aspects of the construction of heresy are examined and contextualised, extending beyond the Cathars alone. The anthology examines, by way of example, religious stereotypes both before the emergence of the Inquisition and after it, as well as within modern historical culture.
