Cette image poétique masque les atteintes de plus en plus importantes que nos activités font subir à l’océan. Pourtant, une prise de conscience est à l’oeuvre, partout dans le monde. Car la dégradation des milieux marins engage notre responsabilité commune : envers les générations futures, envers les pays qui subissent de plein fouet l’impact des dommages, mais aussi envers l’océan lui-même et sa biodiversité.
Face à ces enjeux, tel est l’objectif de ce Manifeste : mobiliser sciences naturelles et sciences sociales pour dessiner les perspectives d’un avenir souhaitable, équitable et durable.

Seen from space, the Earth is a “ blue planet”, with seas covering 70% of its surface. This poetic image masks the ever-growing damage that our human activities are inflicting on the oceans. Yet around the world, awareness is also growing. That’s because the degradation of marine environments implicates
our common responsibility: towards future generations, towards the countries that suffer the greatest impacts, but also towards the ocean itself and its biodiversity. Faced with these challenges, the aim of this Manifesto is to mobilise the natural and social sciences to map out the prospects for a desirable, equitable and sustainable future.
