Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are emerging contaminants of global concern due to their carcinogenic/mutagenic nature, ubiquitous occurrence, long range transport, bioaccumulative characteristics, involvement in food chain and food web as well as toxicity in almost all segments of the environment. This contributed volume offers chapters that provide a detailed description of PAH ubiquity, sources, distribution, fate, derivatives, transport, detection techniques as well as remediation methods. Various anthropogenic activities are responsible for the dangerous concentrations of PAHs in the environment. The detection and remediation of such contaminants is the major challenge that this book aims to address. The chapters here provide cases detailing different adsorptive as well as photochemical and biological mechanisms for PAH removal . Green technologies, multidisciplinary approaches and new advancements for PAH remediation are also emphasized for better applicability with the aim of environmental sustainability.
