The story is set in the bohemian Paris of the 1850s and follows the life of a young artist named Svengali and his relationship with Trilby, a beautiful and talented singer. Svengali is a master hypnotist who uses his powers to control and manipulate Trilby, turning her into a famous performer. However, as Trilby becomes more successful, she begins to suffer from the effects of Svengali's hypnotic influence.
