TRIESTE NOIR: "Blood Rain in Trieste," "Trapped in Trieste" and "Black Swan in Trieste." The first three novels in George Henry's "Trieste Series" that follows ex-Canadian Secret Service assassin Milo Marchetti's emotional rollercoaster of a relationship with a mob boss's daughter, Adara Nasim, and his rise to power in the dark underworld of Trieste, Italy, the least Italian city that even the Pope cannot find it on a map.
"Blood Rain": A mysterious, seductive woman who disturbingly resembles Milo's dead wife, sashays her curves into his music club, flashes her sparkling, emerald eyes, licks her pillows of red lips, and offers him a lot of cash to make her blackmailer "disappear." He's intrigued but who is she? Why him? Does she know about his violent past?
"Trapped": As much as he loved the Nasim family, he had been unable to live close to Adara, whom he still confusingly loves and rejects in equal measures. Adara has no doubts about Milo and is determined to get him to return to the Nasim family, marry her, and save the family from its enemies. Milo is determined not to return to a highly emotionally charged situation and with a big problem looming. Milo has left the protection of the Nasim family and fears the wrath of three mob bosses if they discover his roles in the deaths of their sons while protecting Adara.
"Black Swan": Who is trying to kill Milo Marchetti? Is it Marotti, the deputy chief of Criminalpol, a national security agency, to silence him over his knowledge of the politically explosive circumstances of the death of Fabio Borini, a fascist government minister? If not him, who? Donatella Mazzola of the rival mob family, Pavelic, a fascist Croat, or Riina, the imprisoned boss of the Mafia? Milo has made deals, exchanging his criminal businesses for legal ones, with all three of them. Is one after a better deal by eliminating Milo? Could it be Stojanovic, the Muslim-hating Serb, whom the Nasim family has clashed with for decades? Could it be Nouri, his second-in command, or the rebellious Nasim capos who are unhappy that Milo replaced the ailing Mohammed Nasim as the family leader? Milo teams up with his DIGOS security service ally, Isabella Camilleri and Trieste's capo of detectives, Conte, to identify the shooter before Milo is murdered.
