L'affiche concoctée par Toulouse-Lautrec (1964-1901) pour vanter les plaisirs du Moulin Rouge est sûrement celle qui est restée la plus emblématique du célèbre cabaret, dont le dessinateur était un grand habitué.

Pilier du cercle des artistes bohèmes de la fin du XIXe siècle, on reconnaissait facilement la petite silhouette de Toulouse-Lautrec sillonner dans les rues et cafés de Montmartre; il aimait se déguiser au grand bonheur de ses amis photographes et l'exhibition était une de ses provocations favorites.

Ses toiles sont ainsi les témoins des scènes de la vie des artistes de l'époque: au bal, au spectacle ou au fond des cafés. On garde aussi de lui de nombreux et touchants portraits de femmes, la plupart des prostituées, dont il vantait la qualité de modèle, dans leur vie quotidienne.

The poster concocted by Toulouse-Lautrec (1964-1901) to praise the pleasures of the Moulin Rouge is surely the one that has remained the most emblematic of the famous cabaret, of which the artist was a great regular.

A pillar of the circle of bohemian artists at the end of the 19th century, Toulouse-Lautrec's little silhouette was easily recognizable in the streets and cafés of Montmartre; he liked to dress up to the delight of his photographer friends and exhibition was one of his favorite provocations.

His paintings are thus the witnesses of the scenes of the life of the artists of the time: at the ball, at the show or at the bottom of the cafes. He also painted many touching portraits of women, mostly prostitutes, whose quality as models he praised in their daily lives.
