In the kingdom of Zhao, whose totem is the black-eyed white fish, there was born a woman of unparalleled beauty—Xi Zi. Her mysterious birth foretold a life bound to her nation's fate. Yet by a twist of destiny and her own careful design, she bore the crown prince of the enemy state, Qin, and helped him ascend the throne. Qin's totem, in contrast, was the white-eyed black fish.
Caught between loyalty to her homeland and love for her child, Xi Zi struggled in agony, navigating the treacherous tides between nations. Within the Qin court, she wielded wisdom and strategy, mastering intrigue and persuasion. But no brilliance could outwit fate.
In the end, Xi Zi perished alongside Zhao, consumed by the power of the empire she had helped create.
The opposing totems—the black-eyed white fish of Zhao and the white-eyed black fish of Qin—are drawn from the twin fish of the Taiji yin-yang symbol, embodying the eternal balance of creation and destruction, love and betrayal, nation and self.
