At 75, after a lifetime exploring consciousness across Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Siberia, Andy Martin received seventeen words during meditation on a five-hundred-foot dune in the Algerian Sahara. Those words waited thirteen years, ripening through seventy-five years of lived experience, before spontaneously becoming seventeen complete poems in 2025, following a retreat in Oxfordshire.
The Awakening Path: From Gratitude to Wisdom distills a lifetime into wisdom earned through direct experience across continents, cultures, and consciousness traditions. Growing up in Malawi, Andy learned interconnectedness as lived reality through tribal wisdom. Decades exploring contemplative traditions, mystical practices, and shamanic journeys deepened his understanding of how consciousness manifests and transforms. Years as a clinical hypnotherapist revealed the spiral nature of growth in countless others.
Now retired and caring for his mother in Devon, Andy witnesses that profound spiritual practice often happens in the quietest moments.
The collection flows through three sections:
Foundation: gratitude, humility, forgiveness, interconnectedness, service, grace Inner Development: compassion, wonder, manifestation, acceptance, courage, hope Embodied Wisdom: resilience, presence, spiritual awakening, surrender, wisdomThese poems honour the full spectrum of human life, transcendent moments and everyday struggles, breakthroughs, and plateaus. This book is for readers who seek depth without dogma, value lived experience, trust their own spiral journey, and sense that what they seek might already be present.
Seventeen poems distilling seventy-five years, this is what ripens when wisdom has time to mature.
As St. Francis of Assisi reminds us, "What you are looking for is already where you are looking from."
