The discovery in the Pas-de-Calais of thousands of glass-plate negatives produced by the Studio Zgorecki brought to light a veritable constellation of faces from the Polish diaspora in northern France. This volume reveals the social role played by studio photography between the wars, while illustrating the life and times of an expatriate community that helped to rebuild the region's mining industry.
