In a time marked by division and biases, this study explores how literature affirms empathy as a dynamic force in human affairs. Through close readings of works that dramatize injustice and moral conflict, it examines the varied circumstances in which empathy can move beyond sentiment to motivate meaningful, concrete action. By highlighting how narrative can disrupt moral blindness and challenge antagonism, it reveals ways in which imaginative storytelling can inspire recognition, responsibility, and social change.
Serving as an essential complement to contemporary scientific, psychological, and philosophical research, this work demonstrates how the literary imagination is able to capture emotional intensity of lived experience in ways other disciplines cannot. Through this lens of literary imagination, it illustrates the transformative power of radical empathy to transform consciousness and foster solidarity with the suffering of others.
