The Southeast USA has seen extremely rapid growth the past 75 years. Especially Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Only Texas has grown faster lately. Between Florida's "rodent problem" in Orlando began by a man with "a complete lack of imagination and no good ideas" (seriously, that's what the Kansas City Star's editor said about Walt Disney!), air conditioning making the region more habitable, and the Eisenhower Interstate Highway system connecting the region better to the rest of the United States, Atlanta's airport focusing so much air travel to itself, and so many other factors, it's become one of the most popular areas of the United States to live.

Although growth comes at a cost. We have not kept up with the infrastructure needs of the region. The antiquated highways are indubitably showing signs of being inadequate. Especially the most popular ones that have not been upgraded yet. High speed rail would also be useful.
