He was adopted. At almost five, Paul Aubin couldn't believe what his "parents" were telling him; he was an adopted child they loved very much, though weren't related to in blood. However, it wasn't until he was an adult that Paul began the search for his birth parents, one that would reveal scandal and heartache as well as redemption and purpose. In his autobiography, Secrets of the Father, Paul was a normal middle-class child raised on Long Island who happened to be adopted. After being ostracized by school peers for his size and adoptive status, he went on to be successful in pharmaceuticals in California and as a happily married father. A diagnosis of hyperlipidemia encouraged Paul to begin a search for his birth parents, at first for medical history reasons, but one that later revealed a cover-up in the adoption process and a secret romance within the Catholic Church.
