Limitless meets Next in this gritty paranormal mystery when two young boys and their caregiver go missing in late 1973 southern Maine. No ransom is requested, and the police do little except quietly blame the parents for letting a once-gay man nanny their two sons. The boys' parents' frustration grows until help is offered from a strange quarter.
Their teenage daughter, Stephanie, runs into an old friend, Jess Rosen, and they go out for pizza.
Jess senses something's wrong and gently prods the boys' disappearance from Stephanie, ending with Stephanie choking back tears and Jess comforting her over their cooling pizza. Once Stephanie quiets, Jess asks, "Okay if I tell my boyfriend about this?"
"What can he do?"
"He's good at finding things."

In college and having spent most of his life avoiding his grandfather's trainings, John Chance aka Gio Fortuna finds himself called to remember and practice his grandfather's ancient ways to save children from human monsters.
Gio realizes being able to do anything doesn't mean he can do everything, and that the only rules that bind us are those we place on ourselves.
