Le peintre américain Sam Francis (1923-1994), associé à la seconde génération des expressionnistes abstraits, est un artiste de la couleur et de la lumière dont l'œuvre est fortement marquée par des enjeux spirituels, philosophiques et picturaux. Artiste Transatlantique, Francis a vécu et travaillé aux États-Unis mais aussi en France, au Japon, au Mexique et en Suisse. L'historien de l'art Pierre Wat invite huit artistes à porter aujourd'hui leur regard sur cette œuvre fondamentale du XX^e siècle.

The American painter Sam Francis (1923-1994), associated with the second generation of abstract expressionists, is an artist of color and light whose work is strongly marked by spiritual, philosophical, and pictorial issues. A Transatlantique artist, Francis lived and worked in the United States, France, Japan, Mexico, and Switzerland. Art historian Pierre Wat invites eight artists to cast an eye on this fundamental work of the 20^th century.
