« Ça commence par une photographie. Mon histoire. C'est un jour d'hiver, ils portent tous deux un manteau, ils se trouvent sur un promontoire. Ils sont enlacés, la tête de ma mère contre le cou de mon père, Ivan Alejandro, et lui serre son épaule avec son bras, sa main. Ils sourient. Ils sont heureux. Radieux. Ça saute aux yeux. Je suis né de cette photographie. C'était le temps de la Splendeur des Amberson. Ils s'étaient rencontrés quelques mois auparavant à une réception du consulat de France à Los Angeles.

Et maintenant, ils vivaient en France, mariés, amoureux. Il y a trop d'amour dans cette photo. Trop de promesses de bonheur. Je ne peux pas les voir. Pas les voir ainsi, quand on pense à tout ce qui s'est passé après. Elle fait trop mal, cette image, cette icône. »
