The "Devil's painter", Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450-1516), was one of the most inspiring Flemish artists of his time.

Copied and imitated during his lifetime, between medieval iconography and Renaissance art, Bosch developed a very personal surrealist universe that nevertheless aimed at the universal. Vices or virtues, good or evil, pleasure or expiation: his mythical triptychs are mirrors held up to the actions of humanity and their consequences. The grotesque creatures, disturbing monsters and visions of the apocalypse, chimeras of the Christian imagination, confront the viewer with his nature of eternal solitary facing Evil and its temptations, in tortured apparitions, teeming with details.
