Rodin De la main à l'airain

Des réserves du musée Rodin, jadis atelier du « maître », à l'antre du fondeur, Jean Yves Cousseau approche l'oeuvre sculptée, observe et dévoile sa mise en oeuvre.

Matière travaillée, fondue, façonnée, choyée, préservée, restaurée, à l'état de cire, en plâtre ou de bronze, maculée, patinée, couverte d'argile ou enfouie dans le sable, tantôt soulevée par des chaînes de palans, tantôt portée par des mains vivantes, érigée ou gisante, conçue pour être éternelle et pourtant si vulnérable, la sculpture, bien qu'inerte, reflète une troublante humanité.

En mettant en lumière la face cachée de la sculpture, l'auteur rend hommage à Rodin, à l'art et à l'excellence de ses artisans.

Complices, Alain Madeleine-Perdrillat nous éclaire sur son approche photographique et Antoinette Le Normand-Romain s'associe à l'hommage en documentant les relations que Rodin, « sculpteur des mains », entretenait lui-même avec ses fondeurs.

Rodin From hand to bronze

From the reserves of the Rodin Museum, which was once the master's workshop, to the lair of the caster, Jean Yves Cousseau seeks to approach the sculpted work, observes it and unravels its making.

The material is worked, cast, shaped, cared for, preserved, restored, in the form of wax, plaster or bronze, stained, patinated, covered in clay or buried in sand, sometimes it is lifted by pulleys, or carried by living hands. Standing or lying down, designed to be eternal and yet so vulnerable, a sculpture, though inanimate, reflects a disturbing humanity.

By revealing the hidden face of sculpture, the author pays tribute to Rodin, to art as well as the excellence of its craftsmen.

Complicits, Alain Madeleine-Perdrillat enlights the approach chosen by the photographer, and Antoinette Le Normand-Romain joins in the tribute by analyzing the relationship that Rodin, the « sculptor of hands », had with his casters.
