Qu'est-ce que la politique, si ce n'est la volonté acharnée et l'art de bâtir, pour tous et avec tous, une société où chacun ait une vraie place et qui se donne les moyens d'enrayer, dès qu'ils se manifestent, les processus qui, conduisent à l'exclusion et à la reproduction de la grande pauvreté ? Telles sont les questions abordées dans cet ensemble de textes prononcés devant des institutions nationales ou internationales. Couvrant une période qui s'étend des années soixante à la fin des années quatre-vingt, ils permettent de saisir la manière dont le père Joseph Wresinski n'a cessé, chemin faisant, d'approfondir sa réflexion, d'affiner son analyse et de déployer sa pensée, dans la continuité de ses expériences et intuitions initiales, mais en se laissant en permanence instruire par ce que la vie et le combat des plus pauvres ne cessaient de lui apporter. Le refus de la misère est un véritable projet de société. C'est cette pensée politique, née de l'action, que ce recueil cherche à faire connaître.

What is politics, if not the will to build - and the art of building - a society for everyone and with everyone, where each individual has a place a society that has the power to curb, the moment they appear, those processes that result in exclusion and wide-spread poverty? These are the questions tackled in this collection of speeches delivered before national and international institutions. Covering a period extending from the 60s to the end of the 80s, they enable the reader to appreciate how Father Joseph Wresinski has, along the way, constantly deepened his reflection, refined his analysis and enlarged his thinking, in the continuation of his experiences and earliest intuitions, while always absorbing the lessons that life and the struggles of the poorest among us incessantly furnish. The banishment of poverty is a truly social project. It is that political thinking, born of action, that this collection aims to make known.
