Omschrijving

Book Practices & Textual Itineraries is a collection of peer-reviewed book-length publications devoted to the study of book history and textual and visual scholarship. It traces evolutions in the production, transmission and reception of books, texts and images over time and across cultural and disciplinary boundaries. It likewise examines the practices which have been developing in response to the acceleration of textual and visual production and circulation provoked by electronic media, and considers their significance in the editing, illustrating, publishing and interpreting of literary and non-literary works. Finally, it explores issues related to the archiving of texts and images, and engages with the subjects of literacy, visual communication and information science. Published at the Université de Lorraine, in Nancy, France, under the supervision of an international advisory board, the collection aims at facilitating dialogue between book, text and image scholars and practitioners from France, Europe and the English-speaking world.

Reading Ian McEwan's Mature Fiction : New Critical Approaches

Ian McEwan is recognised as one of the most important British writers today. This collection of essays offers an updated insight into his mature fiction. Over his four-decade-long literary career, he has been awarded numerous prestigious prizes, including the Man Booker Prize in 1998. His work is marked by diversity and encompasses different genres, time periods, themes and narrative voices. This collection presents new critical approaches on aspects of McEwan's oeuvre such as questions of ethics and the representation of the past. The contributors to this volume focus on McEwan's mature work, away from the 'shocklit' which was initially his trademark and which earned him the nickname of Tan Macabre'. They discuss more recent novels, starting from the 1990s, up to The Cockroach, published in 2019, which display the author's growing engagement with topical issues. Essays by international scholars span diachronic approaches, case studies and film adaptations.
