Mondrian (1872-1944) est un peintre hollandais considéré comme l'un des chefs de file de la peinture abstraite. Au début de son parcours, il s'intéresse à la couleur, pendant sa période fauviste, avant de l'abandonner pour explorer les lignes, ces " éléments primordiaux d'une chose ". Il veut faire de la peinture un langage universel. Au début du XXe siècle, il se différencie des autres artistes en développant un cubisme plus abstrait, où les objets ne figurent plus rien et deviennent un ensemble de lignes horizontales et verticales remplies de couleurs primaires.

Un auteur de référence, 200 images et une maquette dynamique donnent un excellent positionnement à cette monographie. Elle présente près de 200 œuvres du peintre sur 288 pages, en format 18 x 18 cm. L'auteur, Hajo Düchting, est un spécialiste de la période. Il a notamment publié sur Kandinsky, Picasso et Klee chez Prestel ; sur Delaunay, Seurat et Cézanne chez Taschen.

Mondrian (1872-1944) was a Dutch painter considered one of the leaders of abstract painting. At the beginning of his career, he was interested in color, during his Fauvist period, before abandoning it to explore the lines, those "primordial elements of a thing. He wanted to make painting a universal language. At the beginning of the 20th century, he differentiated himself from other artists by developing a more abstract cubism, where objects no longer appear as anything and become a set of horizontal and vertical lines filled with primary colors.
