A new essay by John Eelderfield and important historical texts by the poet and art critic frank O'Hara (1960) and former Rose Art Museum director Carl belz (1981) shed light on the work, and a new, full chronology of frankenthaler's life and work in the 1950s draws upon previously inaccessible archival sources and includes a number of never-before-seen documentary images. Published to accompany an exhibition held at Gagosian Gallery, New York, in Spring 2013, this lavish volume is the first to be published since this acclaimed abstract painter's death.
