She hosted the JCI World Congress in Sydney and was awarded Outstanding National President of the World, the first woman globally to receive the honour.

Irene has contributed to Meals on Wheels, school councils, cancer support initiatives, civil celebrancy, and local community projects, leaving tangible legacies like Harrington Reserve. Recognition includes Life Memberships, the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), and investiture in the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem (OSJ–Malta).
