L'oeuvre de l'artiste franco-marocaine Najia Mehadji poursuit depuis les années 1980 une trajectoire singulière.

Des premiers dessins au fusain - pensés autant comme des performances théâtrales que comme des réalisations plastiques - jusqu'aux travaux qui subliment la touche de pinceau, en passant par les oeuvres figurant énigmatiquement une architecture sacrée et celles où l'ornementale fleur fusionne forme pure et symbole, la poétique de Najia Mehadji a trouvé une véritable source de création dans le dialogue de la modernité picturale occidentale et de la mystique soufie, aussi bien que dans le souvenir d'oeuvres de la Renaissance ou de l'Art nouveau.

Sensible à la longue survivance des formes, son oeuvre constitue une manifestation inédite de néo-symbolisme.

Since the 1980s, the work of French-Moroccan artist Najia Mehadji has followed a remarkable trajectory.

From her early charcoal drawings - conceived as much as theatrical performances as plastic creations - to the later works that exalt the brushstroke, via creations that enigmatically evoke sacred architecture or those in which ornamental flowers meld pure form and symbolism, Najia Mehadji's poetics have found a true source of creative vitality in the dialogue between Western pictorial modernism and Sufi mysticism, and in the memory of Renaissance and Art Nouveau masterpieces.

Sensitive to the enduring survival of forms, her work stands as an unprecedented expression of neo-symbolism.
