English summary: In the 16th century, Wittenberg became a hotbed of municipal musical culture of supra-regional signficance for the cultivation of music in practice and in theory. The author takes an institutional and social historical approach to her study of Wittenberg and investigates the castle church, the town church and the university, the main institutions of municipal musical cultivation. Extensive, largely unedited source material is analysed for the first time from a music-historical point of view. The focus of interest thereby lies both in the theoretical, humanist discourse about music and musical performance. In addition, on the basis of the reconstruction of libraries and collections in Wittenberg, a profile is drawn up of their significance for the preservation, reproduction, sale and performance of music. The case of Wittenberg shows the many facetted relations between the town and music in the early modern age. German description: Wittenberg entwickelte sich im 16. Jahrhundert zu einem Kulminationszentrum stadtischer Musikkultur - uberregional bedeutend fur die praktische sowie theoretische Musikpflege. Diesem Beispiel nahert sich die Autorin institutionen- und sozialgeschichtlich ausgerichtet. In den Blick genommen werden als Hauptinstitutionen stadtischer Musikpflege die Schlosskirche, die Stadtkirche und die Universitat. Das umfangreiche, weitgehend unedierte Quellenmaterial wird zu weiten Teilen erstmals unter musikhistorischen Fragestellungen bearbeitet. Gegenstand des Interesses ist dabei sowohl der theoretische, humanistisch gepragte Diskurs uber Musik als auch ihre praktische Ausubung. Zudem wird aufgrund der Rekonstruktion von Wittenberger Bibliotheken und Sammlungen ein Profil ihrer Bedeutung fur die Bewahrung, die Vervielfaltigung, den Vertrieb und die praktische Umsetzung von Musik erstellt. Am Fallbeispiel Wittenbergs wird das vielschichtige Phanomen des Beziehungsgeflechts zwischen Stadt und Musik in der Fruhen Neuzeit entfaltet.
