The young American artist Michael E. Smith has thrilled his European audience recently at the Biennale in Venice in 2019 and at the Vienna Secession in spring 2020 with his radical and equally subtle assemblage of materials. Like no other international artist of his generation, he succeeds in exhausting the small line between material archaism and sensual opulence in his sculptures and creates a stimulating balance for the eye of the beholder. With the same consequence he questions the classical art of drawing in his graphic oeuvre in an uncompromising way. For his exhibition in Munich, he creates an extensive series of new drawings and sculptures, which will be staged installatively.
