Ce livre présente, à travers treize articles couvrant une aire géographique allant du Maghreb au Japon, différentes manifestations de l'idéologie royale dans les civilisations de l'Asie depuis les époques les plus anciennes jusqu'à l'aube des temps modernes. Ces textes essaient d'explorer les expressions diverses prises par le discours justifiant la légitimité du prince en s'attachant d'abord aux différents supports véhiculant la parole royale: les mythes, les généalogies, les épopées, les miroirs des princes sont les premiers vecteurs de ce discours. Mais il en est d'autres comme les statues, les images voire les porcelaines dans la Chine des Ming qui en appellent autant aux sens qu'à la raison pour renvoyer l'image d'un souverain puissant, légitime et parfois même divinisé. À chaque fois ou presque, c'est le rôle du prince dans l'organisation de la société et dans les rapports de celle-ci avec le monde céleste qui est souligné. Il apparaît bien comme le gardien et le garant de cet équilibre précaire.

This book presents thirteen contributions covering a geographical area ranging from the Maghreb to Japan on the different manifestations of royal ideology in the civilizations of Asia from the most ancient times until the dawn of modern times. These texts try to explore the various expressions taken by the discourse justifying the legitimacy of the prince by focusing first on the different media conveying the royal discourse: myths, genealogies, epics, princes' mirrors are the first vectors. But there are many others such as statues, images and even porcelains in Ming China which appeal to the senses as much as to reason to return the image of a powerful, legitimate and sometimes even deified sovereign. Almost every time, it is the role of the sovereign in the organization of society and its relations with the celestial world that is emphasized. He clearly appears as the guardian and the guarantor of this precarious balance.
