Les voyages de Seyfried Rybisch

Seyfried Rybisch (1530-1584), jeune patricien de confession luthérienne originaire de Breslau (actuel Wroclaw, Pologne), a rédigé en latin, à la fin de ses études de droit effectuées, entre dix-huit et vingt-quatre ans, en Allemagne, France et Italie, un copieux journal de voyage (Itinerarium) demeuré à l'état de manuscrit. Ce texte fait l'objet, pour la première fois, d'une édition, sous formes numérique (en ligne) pour le texte et imprimée pour la traduction et les commentaires. Il s'agit d'un témoignage de valeur sur l'univers culturel d'un Européen de la Renaissance féru d'antiquités, qui devait ensuite faire carrière comme fonctionnaire des Habsbourg à Bratislava et à Breslau.

Young Lutheran Breslau-born patrician, Seyfried Rybisch (1530-1584), has written a travel diary - Itinerarium - after his law studies from age eighteen to twenty-four. In this in-depth Itinerarium, he accounts for his time in Germany, France and Italy. Up to this day, it had never been published. Today, the original Latin manuscript is published online while its translation and comments are published in this book. It is a worthy record of the cultural experiences of a Renaissance European, keen on antiquity, who would then make a career as a high official at the Habsburgs' in Bratislava and Breslau - today Wroclaw in Poland.
