Arrachés à leur signification concrète originelle pour mieux révéler leur conscience poétique au sein de surprenants « objets à fonctionnement symbolique », ces « précipités de nos désirs » sont autant de bouleversantes machines à penser propres à exalter les forces psychiques chères au surréalisme et à troubler les frontières entre rêve et réalité.

Objects played a crucial role in Surrealist experiments from the outset, whether natural or manufactured, banal or exotic, discovered fortuitously or through the realm of dreams. By reappropriating their initial literal significance in order to release their poetic conscience, these incongruous « objects with a symbolic function », these « precipitates of our desires », were turned into overwhelming thinking machines, tailored to extol the psychic forces that epitomised the Surrealist movement and to blur the frontiers between dreams and reality.
