La Tapisserie de Bayeux, chef d'oeuvre unique au monde, est en fait une broderie de laine sur une toile de lin. Sur près de 70 mètres de long, elle raconte la conquête de l'Angleterre par Guillaume, duc de Normandie, en 1066. Elle se révèle aussi un incroyable documentaire sur la vie au XI^e siècle.

Au fil de reproductions de grande qualité, l'auteur s'attache à éclairer les événements qui ont motivé la conquête et à retracer la célèbre bataille de Hastings où le roi d'Angleterre, Harold II, trouve la mort. De nombreux arrêts sur image aident le lecteur à décrypter des détails de la vie quotidienne ou à apprécier des sujets cocasses.

The Bayeux Tapestry, a truly unique masterpiece, is in fact a woollen embroidery on a linen canvas. Over a length of nearly 70 metres, it tells the story of the Norman Conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy, in 1066. lt also proves to be an excellent documentary source on 11 th century life.

As its superb reproductions unfold, the author strives to depict the events that spurred the conquest and to re-enact the famous Battle of Hastings, during which Harold II of England was killed. Freezes on several frames enable the spectator to grasp the details of day-to-day life and to appreciate some rather comical figures.
