La " Mission civilisatrice " de la France fut la raison officiellement avancée par la IIIe République pour justifier son expansion coloniale. Le Cameroun, ancienne colonie allemande confiée en 1919 à Paris par la Société des Nations au titre de " pays sous mandat ", constitue un champ symbolique d'expérimentation de cette prétendue vocation. Colonialisme ou mission civilisatrice ? Cette question de fond peut être étendue jusqu'en 1960, date de l'indépendance du Cameroun.
