Qu'il s'agisse de poser les principes d'une nouvelle épistémologie des pratiques de connaissance, d'une nouvelle sociologie des pratiques ordinaires, la posture critique de Pierre Bourdieu implique des décisions théoriques et s'adosse à une ontologie du social qu'il importe de décrire et de mettre au jour préalablement. Raison pour laquelle notre enquête sera philosophique. Si de nombreux travaux récents sur l'oeuvre de Pierre Bourdieu ont mis en avant des proximités importantes avec certains aspects de la philosophie contemporaine du langage et de la phénoménologie, il a paru éclairant, pour l'interprétation de concepts comme ceux d'habitus et de disposition, de rapprocher méthodologiquement la sociologie des pratiques de quelques lectures pragmatistes de l'expérience et de l'action. On sera alors en mesure de comprendre l'importance d'un retour à l'héritage durkheimien qui, infléchi par une lecture critique et subtile de l'anthropologie structurale, donne aux concepts de force et de contrainte une nouvelle opérativité et une fécondité heuristique de premier plan. Les descriptions sociologiques du monde social peuvent alors rendre compte de l'existence de rapports de confrontation et de domination. Penser sociologiquement la force du social revient donc à prendre au sérieux ce qui fait l'historicité du monde social des pratiques qui est un monde des sens communs. On espère, pour finir, et contre des détracteurs prévenus et enclins aux reconstructions mythologiques, convaincre le lecteur que cette vision du monde social, pour être désenchantée et marquée au coin d'une lucidité inquiète, n'en est pas moins soucieuse de rendre aux agents qui habitent le monde, une capacité effective, pratique, à produire les principes d'intelligibilité de leurs conduites et de leurs expériences. -- Whether it is a question of establishing the principles of a new epistemology of the practice of knowledge, or a new sociology of ordinary practice, Pierre Bourdieu's critical position demands theoretical decisions and to be founded on a social ontology which must be defined and stated in advance, which is why our investigation will be philosophical in nature. Although many recent studies of Pierre Bourdieu's work have highlighted significant proximity with certain aspects of contemporary philosophy of language and phenomenology, it seemed useful for the interpretation of concepts, as for that of habitus and disposition, to compare the sociological methods of some pragmatist readings of experience and action. We would then be in a position to understand the significance of a return to Durkheim's heritage which, oriented by a critical and subtle reading of structural anthropology, gives the concepts of force and constraint a new operativity and heuristic fecundity. The sociological descriptions of the social world can then take into account the existence of relations of confrontation and domination. To think the force of social factors from a sociological viewpoint means paying heed to what makes the historicity of the world of social practices, which is a world of common sense. In conclusion, we hope to warn readers against critics inclined to reconstruct mythologies, and convince them that this vision of the social world, although disillusioned and characterized by an anxious lucidity, still aspires to give those agents who live in the world an effective, practical efficiency, to produce the principles of intelligibility governing their behavior and experiences.
