En 1902, le cinéma existe depuis environ six ans. Georges Méliès, qui tourne depuis l'invention des frères Lumière, réalise Le Voyage dans la Lune, un film à gros budget. Il le conçoit en noir et blanc mais il le pense aussi en couleur, la copie étant alors peinte à la main, sur commande, dans un atelier de coloris.

Ce chef-d'oeuvre, considéré comme le premier film de science-fiction, connaît un succès immense et l'image de l'obus dans l'oeil de la lune fait le tour du monde.

Malheureusement cette version couleur du Voyage dans la Lune se perd, et demeure introuvable pendant près d'un siècle. Une copie réapparaît en 1993, retrouvée en Espagne dans un était critique. Après une restauration hors du commun, c'est seulement en 2011 que le film peut à nouveau faire le tour du monde.

Voyage aux tout premiers temps du cinéma et rencontre d'un personnage haut en couleur, inventeur et créateur génial : Georges Méliès.

In 1902, the cinema is roughly six-years old. Georges Méliès, who shoots films since the presentation of the Lumière brothers invention, produces and directs A Trip to the Moon, a superproduction. He conceives the film in black and white but also in color, the print would then be hand-painted, in a colorist workshop.

This masterpiece, considered as the first science-fiction movie, is very successful and the image of the rocket into the eye of the moon goes all around the world.

Unfortunately, this color version of A Trip to the Moon is lost and remains so for almost a century.

A print reappears in 1993, found is Spain, in critical conditions. After an outstanding long-lasting restoration, it is only in 2011 that the color version can be released again.
