During a book signing in Bilbao, an old schoolmate hands her a mysterious black envelope containing a photograph of Alba's diary, the teenager who died under strange circumstances and inspired Quintana's most famous novel, "The Girl from the Lake."

This discovery prompts Quintana to cancel her promotional tour and return to her father's old house in Urkizu, the small inland village in the Basque Country where it all happened. It was there, on the night of San Juan in 1999, that Alba disappeared forever, along with her enigmatic diary.
