Les changements environnementaux auxquels nous faisons face sont devenus plus rapides et brutaux et n'affectent pas tous les humains de la même manière. Globalement, les plus démunis, qui polluent le moins, sont ceux à qui l'on demande le plus grand effort relativement à leurs moyens, et ceux que l'on consulte le moins dans la mise en oeuvre des politiques environnementales. Crise environnementale et inégalités sociales se renforcent l'une l'autre. Il faut donc les considérer ensemble de front. C'est ce que permet l'idée de justice environnementale, dont nous examinons les contours et les opportunités de mise en oeuvre au prisme de l'histoire naturelle.

The environmental changes we now face have become increasingly rapid and brutal, and do not affect all human being sin the same way. Globally, those who have the least and who pollute the least are also those who are asked to make the greatest effort relative to their means, and who are consulted the least when it comes to implementing environmental policies. Environmental crises and social inequalities compound each other. They must therefore be tackled in parallel. This is possible through the notion of environmental justice, whose contours and opportunities for implementation we examine here through the prism of natural history.
