Dans la citation qui sert de titre à ce livre, on aura reconnu la parole de Jésus qui revient à trois reprises au chapitre 6 de l'évangile de Jean. Attestée dans la couche la plus tardive du Nouveau Testament, cette parole, dans sa concision, proclame le visage spécifique de l'espérance chrétienne. En même temps, elle en dit l'auteur, les bénéficiaires et le moment. C'est elle qui constitue le point de départ de la réflexion de Michel Gourgues. Mais son propos n'est pas simplement de réfléchir à la singularité de l'espérance chrétienne. Il en examine l'affirmation par une étude précise des textes du Nouveau Testament relatifs à la résurrection. Il aborde ces passages, des plus anciens aux plus tardifs, dans une perspective de genèse et d'évolution de la certitude croyante. Certified in the latest texts of the New Testament, these words, by their concision, proclaim the specific nature of Christian hope. At the same time, we are informed of their author, beneficiaries and the time context. Michel Gourgues' reflection takes this quotation as a point of departure. But his intention is not simply to reflect on the unique nature of Christian hope. He examines the statement in a meticulous study of the New Testament texts that concern resurrection. He approaches these passages - from the earliest to the latest - in a perspective of the genesis and evolution of the believer's certitude. Thanks to this rigorous and clear methodology, he succeeds in retracing, with joy, the development of the hope of resurrection from Jesus's teaching and the first Christian testimony -; even before Paul -; to the stage of maturation which represents Johannine tradition.
