This advanced technology enables dentists to attain superior scanning results, offering clearer insights into patients' dental structures and ensuring precise and customized treatment. In turn, with the upsurge in available options, it has become increasingly challenging for dental professionals to make investment decisions regarding which scanner to purchase. Using insights gained from the use of many different scanner systems, this literature reviews intraoral scanner technology and discusses various scanners in the market today along with their advantages and disadvantages of using optical impressions compared to conventional impressions and also evaluate the differences between the IOS currently available commercially and determine the current clinical applications/limitations in the use of IOS.
