Breeding birds with different colours have up to now mostly been on a trial and error basis. New discoveries related to genes responsible for colour in birds, now for the first time make bird breeding easy and totally predictable. The concept is called Avichroma and describes at the hand of easily understandable graphics how bird colours are created by die distribution of four pigments (dyes) by the genes in bird's bodies. Mixtures of these dyes in different proportions create the different colours in birds. Furthermore the existence of colour blocks that overlap in birds, each block with its own properties, explain why certain colours only occur in certain areas of a bird's body. The new discovery of nine gene defects that lead to colour changes in birds, are described. This means thet breeders actually must understand and breed the possible defects in birds genes, and not specifically breeding bird colours to obtain the desired outcomes.

The astonishing magenta trap is also discussed. Magenta is a pigment based colour, but it is not a light wave colour. If one looks at the visual colour spectrum or a rainbow (the light wave colours that thje human eye can detect) there is no magenta visible. Magenta is not a light wave colour. Many birds in a breeders aviaries that appear white, may possibly be magenta coloured, but the human eye can not see that magenta. In this book it is explained in easy terms how the breeder can breed with visual birds on his computer, where magenta is visible, and then get the precise outcomes required by duplicating his virtual breeding in the aviary.

The book includes coulour wheels for breeding 2-coloured and 3-coloured birds, examples of some bird species' colour blocks, and graphics how genetic traits in certain bird species are inherited.
