Orthodox theology is based on liturgical experience the main characteristics of Orthodox art - the icon, chants, architecture - flow from the theology and liturgy. Theology and liturgy also influence the aesthetic practices, the personal piety of each Christian in particular, but also the position of the Church in relation to other Christian confessions, other religions and secular society. The author constantly comes back to the historical sources of Orthodoxy and relates the foundation of the Church by Christ, the apostolic years, the era of martyrs, the councils and Byzantium until its fall. He goes on to present a panorama of contemporary Orthodoxy in the world, often referring to its great figures, Fathers of the Church and saints, whose works are generously quoted.
