« Nous construisions un fantastique palais la nuit… » met en dialogue les œuvres du plasticien contemporain Petrit Halilaj et celles d’Alberto Giacometti. Marqué par son enfance dans un Kosovo en guerre, Halilaj a placé le dessin d’enfant au cœur de sa pratique. Les histoires individuelles et collectives s’y lient pour ouvrir des espaces de liberté.
En 1932, Giacometti copie un dessin d’enfants vu sur un trottoir de son quartier. À partir de ce dessin, Halilaj noue un dialogue fin en révélant toute l’importance du thème de l’enfance dans l’œuvre de son aîné. Richement illustré d’œuvres inédites, le catalogue tisse un réseau subtil de lignes entre les artistes. S’y déploie le vocabulaire enfantin des grands dessins dans l’espace qu’Halilaj appelle « Abetare ». Son rapport intense au dessin d’enfant comme témoignage du monde contemporain révèle un intérêt proche chez Giacometti, déployant les thèmes riches de l’enfance, du rêve, des associations d’idées, du rapport à la merveille.

marked by his childhood in Kosovo during the war, Halilaj places children’s drawing at the heart of his practice. Individual and collective stories come together to open spaces for freedom.
In 1932, Giacometti copied a children’s drawing seen on a pavement in his neighbourhood. From that drawing, Halilaj develops a subtle dialogue by
revealing the importance of the theme of childhood in his elder’s oeuvre. Richly
illustrated with new works, the catalogue weaves a fine network of connections between
both artists as it shows the childlike vocabulary of the large spatial drawings the artist
calls ‘Abetare’. His intense relation with children’s drawing which he considers a witness
to today’s world, reveals an interest close to Giacometti’s work, as Halilaj presents the
rich themes of childhood, dreams, associations of ideas and the relation to wonders.
