He gave substantial financial aid to the Mahatma's constructive programmes. Ghanshyamdas Birla was also closely associated with other important leaders of his time, such as Lokamanya Tilak, Motilal Nehru, Madan Mohan Malaviya, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Jawaharlal Nehru.
