L'ouvrage rassemble toutes les inscriptions latines antiques connues sur le territoire de la petite cité des Gabales, actuel département de la Lozère. Soit un corpus modeste par le nombre - 27 inscriptions lapidaires et trois bornes milliaires - mais original par maints aspects, funéraires et religieux. Il est complété par l'étude de l'instrumentum inscriptum sur des supports variés (bagues, outil, tuiles...), des graffites sur céramique, particulièrement nombreux à Javols, le chef-lieu de cité, et d'une série d'inscriptions rupestres le long d'une voie antique. Cet ensemble de témoignages écrits nous permet de mieux appréhender, tant par l'étude anthroponymique que du point de vue de la pratique de l'écriture, le degré d'acculturation des habitants de cette cité montagneuse du sud du Massif central.

The book gathers all the ancient Latin inscriptions known in the territory of the small civitas of Gabali, the present department of Lozère. This is a modest corpus from the number of them - 27 inscriptions on stone and three milestones - but original from many points, funerary and religious. Are added a study of the instrumentum inscriptum on various media (rings, tool, tegulae...), graffiti on pottery, which are very numerous at Javols, the civitas capital, and a series of rock inscriptions along an ancient road. This set of written documents allows us to gain more insight from the anthroponymic data as from the practice of writing, into the degree of acculturation of the inhabitants of this mountainous territory in the south of the Massif Central.
