Cet ouvrage fait écho au retentissement qui suivit la révélation par Françoise Dolto, vers la fin des années 1970, de son allégeance spirituelle à la foi chrétienne, alors qu'elle était au faîte de sa carrière de psychanalyste. Dans un milieu analytique foncièrement hostile, par principe, à tout appel au religieux, elle prenait le risque d'aller à contre-courant, en livrant une interprétation personnelle du texte de l'Évangile, qui signait son adhésion au message du Christ. C'est toute cette élaboration singulière — pour certains scandaleuse — qui fut la sienne entre foi et psychanalyse, dont Gérard Guillerault s'emploie à suivre ici les tenants et aboutissants, en particulier là où se trouve mise en valeur la thématique médiatrice du désir. C'est aussi l'occasion, dans ce contexte, de situer la place de Françoise Dolto et de son oeuvre par rapport à ses maîtres, Sigmund Freud et Jacques Lacan. Cela ne va pas sans que cette excursion insolite du côté de l'Évangile conduise en retour à une interrogation portant sur la psychanalyse en elle-même, dans ce qui en questionne le sens et la visée.

This book echoes the uproar that followed the revelation by Françoise Dolto, at the end of the 70s when she was at the summit of her career as a psychoanalyst, of her spiritual allegiance to the Christian faith. In the psychoanalytical milieu, which was in principle deeply hostile to all religious calling, she risked swimming against the current by giving her personal interpretation of the Gospels, and signing her adhesion to Christ's message. Her unique elaboration — scandalous for some — between faith and psychoanalysis, is explored here in detail by Gérard Guillerault, especially where the mediating theme of desire is involved. In this context, the author also takes the opportunity to situate Françoise Dolto and her work in relation to her masters, Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. This unusual excursion into the Gospels cannot be complete without making the return journey - an interrogation of psychoanalysis and all that calls into question its meaning and its aims.
